Basil

Basil is my favorite herb. I dried basil for the first time last summer and decided that it was so much better than commercially dried Basil. I wanted to grow more basil this summer. I wanted a cost effective way.

My local grocery store was selling a pot of table top Basil for $3.99.

I made cutting and rooted them in water. This took 2 weeks.

I will plant these tomorrow. I made 5 cuttings. I then divided what was left in the pot into 4 and planted them. So from a $3.99 pot of basil I have 9 plants. Hopefully the Utah heat and drought doesn't kill them so that I have lots of basil to dry in a couple of months.

A new day

I retired from almost 40 years of teaching so I will do what I told the students that I would do, start a blog. I taught Home Ec and Health at Middle School and High School. When I decided on the title of the blog I had just finished a batch of dilly beans, hence the title. This year it has been hot and very dry in Utah so my garden was NOT spectacular. I grew lots of dill but not enough cucumbers and beans for pickles.
